Indoor environment and energy efficiency before and after renovation of multifamily housing

There is a demand to increase the energy efficiency in multi-family housing and several measures are taken in connection with renovations. It is also important that the indoor environment in the dwellings meet people’s needs of high quality indoor air, comfortable temperature, good sound environment and sufficient daylight inlet.

Energy systems, ventilation, and building structure interact and should be treated as a whole. People living in the dwellings are influenced by these systems, at the same time as they also themselves have an impact on the energy consumption and indoor environment. We study, with the tenant in focus, how energy efficiency and high quality indoor environments in dwellings could interact in a positive way.

The project currently comprises two main studies:

The interaction of energy system, indoor environment and tenants - holistic approach to improve energy efficiency in the renovation of multi-family buildings (Swedish Energy Agency, 2016 – 2020).

Sustainable indoor environment in multi-family housing after renovation - a holistic approach on building performance, energy, indoor environment quality, and residents’ behaviour and well-being (FORMAS 2016 – 2020).

The project is management by Eja Pedersen, Environmental Psychology, Department of Architecture and the Built Environment, LTH, Lund University.
